In the course of 2012 and in the framework of a EU-sponsored project, the European Social Partners of the Leather industry, COTANCE and industriAll-Europe produced the first European Social and Environmental Report.
The document was officially introduced on 27 September 2012 in Bucharest, during a special event organised in parallel to the ICAMS Fair.
With this exercice, the social partners of the European leather industry set a new milestone for good governance in the global leather industry, underscoring the principle of continuous progress for a sustainable development.
National Social and Environmental Reports - 2010
In 2000, COTANCE and ETUF:TCL (now IndustriAll-Europe), social partners of the Leather/Tanning Industry at European level, signed an ambitious Code of Conduct followed, in 2008, with a Framework Agreement on Social & Environmental Reporting (see hereunder).
As a first exercise leading to the European report, national Social & Environmental Reports were produced in Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Solemn signature of the Framework Agreement in Pompeii - 2009
On 5 June 2009 in Pompeii, in the presence of Mr Jean-Paul Tricart, Head of Unit in the European Commission in charge of Social Dialogue, the President of COTANCE, Mr Nalle Johansson, and the Secretary General of ETUF:TCL, Mr Patrick Itschert, officially signed the European Framework Agreement adopted by the social partners.
