With a family tradition in the world tanning dating back to the early years of the last century, for more than 50 years Russo di Casandrino has been producing high quality leathers for the footwear, garments and leather goods industries. Its products are made for the luxury sector and are among the finest in the world. The wide range of products all come with the “Made in Italy†or “Made in Italy Full Cycle†label, and comply with a policy that goes beyond purely aesthetic and functional aspects, with close attention being paid to environmental impact and to using materials and creating processes that are increasingly oriented towards a fully traceable, eco-friendly production system.
In Naples, the art of fare pelli, or “making leatherâ€, coupled with that of glove-making, goes back into the mists of time, though the first written records date only from the seventeenth century. At that time, and until 1748, the Porta della Conceria (literally, the “tannery gateâ€) – one of the sixteen gates of the city, “towards the sea†– took its name from the profession.
In the 1960s, the Via Marina-Gianturco district was still home to a large number of tanneries. We inherited these skills from our land, developing and adapting them with a business model that has given us, and continues to give us, great satisfaction.
