General info

1. How did you get into the leather industry?

Our family business involves working with fur instead of leather, but the way of processing fur is quite similar to leather manufacturing. I had been in the family business since my childhood, actually I almost grew up in the family factory, working here and there and for this reason there was no question as to what my profession would be in the future.

2. Who suggested you this job?

A friend of mine, who was working in the leather-chemical industry, told me that in Germany there was an opportunity to get good quality education for those with an interest in the leather industry. I started it and now I am here.

3. Is this your first job?

After I finished my studies in Germany I had an opportunity to work for an American automotive leather manufacturing company as a leather industry technologist, which was the first step in my career. Six years have passed and now I am one of the product development leaders. During those six years, I was lucky enough to participate in several projects that have allowed me to acquire the necessary skills of the profession and get to know the brand of the company.

4. Could you describe your job?

Currently my job as a Product Development Leader, is to help to materialize the new leather drape concepts for the latest models of famous automobile manufacturing companies.

5. Are you working in a team?

Teamwork is essential in my job. The developement of a new product is a complex process which involves many steps. We try to involve every colleagues in our projects because every idea can help.

6. Your job seems quite monotonous. What makes it interesting?

This work is not typically a monotonous work. We work with natural materials and this immediately causes variety. Every leather we are work with is unique. I’ve already participated in many projects and the world has opened up in front of me. I had the opportunity to visit the U.S.A, Sweden and Italy and in every single country I’ve been, I had further training or a meeting with our customers. I’ve been lucky to meet many people and our little “leathery” world is just like a family. You never know when you’ll meet with someone again.

7. Do you enjoy any autonomy in certain decisions at your workplace?

Yes, of course. We’re developing new products all the time so we can’t always follow the daily routine, we have to be flexible. I’ve got free hand in designing certain products within limits

8. Are you proud of your work?

Of course, especially when we achieve a goal with the team. That’s always a good feeling, and I am really proud of my extraordinary job.

9. Did you enjoy your training, was it a good experience?

The “leathery” world is a little family. During my education I was in a multi-cultural community. I had classmates from all around the world. New people, new culture, new habits and I enjoyed every minute of it. The most wonderful part is that you’ll never know when and where you’ll meet again, actually I’ve met one of them in an airport and I was working with another one for a while.

10. Why do you love your job?

Because every day can bring something new just like an idea, success, a challenge or an acquaintance.
